1.  Plan your meals beforehand. Don't eat anything high in calories due to non availability of right food.
2. Eat vegetables and fruits raw as far as possible.
3. Replace chocolates with nuts and dried foods. They are not only low in calories but are very good for your health.
4. Avoid any thing fried.
5. Use non stick cookware for cooking foods. It could help in cooking food with very little oil.
6. Go for white meat instead of red meat.
7. Replace your regular bread with whole wheat bread.
8. Cut down intake of sugar.
9. Cut down intake of coffee, tea and cold drinks.
10. Cut down salt in your food.
11. Drink plenty of water in tune of 3-5 liters per day.
12. Balance intake of food during day.

I am agreed to your tips. They are really useful. I would like to add that one should also concentrate on the foods according to their nutritious value. Food plans should be prepared accordingly.

Although there are general facts known to all, a proper diet plan will differ from person to person depending on the deficiency or abundance of certain nutrients in one's body. But a well-balance diet has to include plenty of fruits, vegetables and lots of water to keep the weight away.

A vast topic written well in brief. I would like to add though:
> Consume only whole grain products, and brown rice only. Why? Because they are more nutritious, contain complex carbohydrates which are converted into glucose and energy more slowly and therefore are less likely to be converted into fats than processed grain. They also contain more fiber and hence give a feeling of fullness causing you to eat less.
> Fruits and vegetables must be eaten. But here I would like to mention the calorie content of three fruits( cals/per average piece) 1) Banana - 107 cals 2)Dates - 250 cals 3) Avocado - 340 cals.
> Tea and coffee, by themselves hardly contain any calories. It is the addition of milk, or cream and sugar that add calories to them.
> Oils should be used minimally. And the oils to be used are olive oil, cannola oil and/or coconut oil. Coconut oil is a surprise here, because it contains saturated fats, but it contains short or medium chain triglycerides which are converted easily into glucose and energy instead of being stored as fat.

Nice information, Every human body reacts differently. If one diet plan is working for your friend, there is no guarantee that it will work for you. Diet planes should be prepared according to your body. All the best.
