Quoted from the article
"without them even knowing that I still could hear, the doctors and specialists in front of me said to my mum that I would die. They even asked my mum if she wanted them to turn the life support machine off after a few days."

Nothing can be worse than this. Doctors will only switch off "life support" machines when a patient is certified "brain death" based on a list of clinical tests. But whether the patient is meaningfully "alive" or not, perhaps, only he knows.

'life support' or 'death support'? hhmmm....sighz. i agree with admin that its only for the patient and God to know. and doctors...playing God? nothing is in black-n-white in medicine...

have yet to read stabilo's story yet. but to share a real-life experience of a friend...
<She fainted for more than an hour during ward-rounds, freaking out everyone around her. she seemed motionless...doctors and colleagues dragged her up to one of the hospital beds. ABG (arterial blood gas) & blood glucose level was checked for. seemed normal. she winced when the MO took blood from her arteries.
she wasnt responding to our calls...as pre-clinical students we were freaking out.heard from her dad (who arrived soon) that this was her 2nd such episode.
a few hours after waking up, she was narrating to us of how 'the jokers around me were reacting'>

we were shocked that our fren who appearwed unresponsive was actualy aware of everything going on around her (except that with eyes shut she couldnt see), hear and recognize every single word uttered.

i must mention though that the attending doc was really sweet & kind enuff to talk to my fren though she couldnt talk back. now, that'z something to emulate Smiley

this is called mercy killing. i strongly disagree with following this procedure. miracles do happen all the time, even the hopeless case can still possibly live longer if given the chance. i don't think it's right for doctors to decide when to end their patients lives. so inhuman!
