URGENT: My brother has swine flu and I need your help

Hi,

My brother has a swine flu. And, he has overcome the dangerous stage, but he suffers from diarrhea now. With the knowledge that he was not suffering from it previously (he has the disease since 10 days).

Is this is a development for the disease virus?

And what to do in this situation?

And how do we know that he was beyond the stage of infection to others?

Note: The Ministry of Health in our country deal with the disease with careless

Viral infection can give rise to many non-specific symptoms such as bodyache, joint pain, fever, sometimes diarrhoea. You should not be worried too much. Has your brother completed antiviral therapy? If yes, what we can do now is supportive treatment only. He should be hydrated well.

Yes, he has completed antiviral therapy. And he is now in the supportive treatment stage.

But sorry, I didn't understand what do you mean of (he should be hydrated well)?

And, I was wondering about the incubation period for the virus for others (like me for example)?

And, what is the most long distant for the virus that it's die if it's beyond it (I've heared that it's 1 meter)?

And, should we deal with the patient from specific distance?

"hydrated well" means being given enough water / fluid to prevent lack of water (dehydration).

The incubation period ranges from 1 day to 1 week. I think if you are free of flu symptoms 2 weeks after contact with your brother, you should be quite safe.

Furthermore, I think the first wave of H1N1 infection is over as most of us have the immunity. As the percentage of people having the immunity (herd immunity) increases, the spread of the disease is retarded.

What we are awaiting is actually the new mutated strain and we do not know how powerful the new strain is.

Just for your information, I think we should not call it "swine flu" anymore. It should be "Influenza A H1N1".

H1N1 should be treated with antiviral Tamiflu and Relenza. Generally the disease will not infect others after 5 days. Even without antiviral treatments H1N1 will be cured by body immune system. Antiviral is given to reduce number of days of infection and reduce the risk of complexities.

H1N1 is not as dangerous as it sounds..i mean the hype that people created just extrapolated the entire disease...it is like your normal flu only...
