My mum last normal menstrual period was in October 2008 and recently in September 2009 she had per-vaginal bleed. When I brought her to see a gynecologist, he told me that the endometrium layer is thickened by ultrasound scan and she needs to undergo DD&C for further confirmation. I am worried of endometrial carcinoma at that time.
When I brought her to see another gynecologist, ultrasound scan showed only presence of uterine fibroid in the myometrium (muscle) layer of the uterus and the uterus was atrophic. DD&C done and there was only scanty amount of endometrial tissue.
And the good news from this second gynecologist is that the most likely cause for my mum's bleed is
ATROPHIC ENDOMETRITIS and indeed it is the commonest cause of post-menopausal bleeding in menopaused women!
This is just something to share with you all.
