I got this email from a friend of mine:

PLEASE TAKE NOTE - STOP EATING THESE SNACKS ... Pass it on !

Hong Kong has ordered stores to pull 16 popular Japanese & Chinese
snacks off their shelves because they contain an unapproved sweetener
which some studies have linked to cancer and other health problems.
The products are :

1. Glico chocolate pretzels ,

2. Kiss mints ,

3. Pringles potato crisps (mild salt flavor) ,

4. Kiku Prawn Crackers ,

5. Kiku cuttlefish crackers ,

6. Koebisen cuttlefish crackers ,

7. Ika Mirin shrimp crackers ,

8. Kiariri prawn-flavoured pretzels ,

9. Nissin cup udon (beef , curry and tempura flavours) ,

10. Nissin UFO Oomori Yaki Soba Instant Noodles ,

11. Nissin Tatsujin Tonkatsu Ramen Instant Noodles ,

12. Natchoro sweetener

13. Qiaqia melon seeds from mainland China ,

14. Popular chocolate and strawberry flavoured Glico Pocky biscuit sticks ,

15. Garlic Chip Rice Crackers ,

16. Koikeya Don Tacos Spicy Beef.

They had also been removed from sale in Singapore after labs found they
contained STEVIOSIDE ,
a sugar-substance not approved for consumption in HongKong or Singapore .

How true is this? Any idea? Huh?

interesting, mdmjane!
i dont know how true it is...but this much i can say for sure.

eat everything in moderation, esp snacks with high salt/preservatives/additive content

its said that food that's got carbon is carcinogenic...eg: charced foodstuffs.

and since i was about 8yrs old, i rembr reading somewhere (must be those Bulletin Konsumer) that eating KUACI can lead to breast cancer! How true??
anyone care to verify from any journals?
TQ

izi...u're what i call the blessed group of people! to not like junkfood is a blessing, gal...blessing. majority of us are either addicted, or like me - can't resist temptation! even when u're full, you falter to temptation!!!

i've got a colleague who's like u...she jus never fancied junkfood, ever! only eats proper meals...or doesnt eat at all. unlike us who grab a bite along the way...that explains why she's so skinny (besides possibly having high metabolism) i guess Wink

by heating whatever food, hundreds of different mutagenic substances originate. the more protein that food contains, the more mutagenics originate due to cooking. in short minimized taking snack like this. ill agree with them by eat moderation. because prevention is better than cure.

It's very worrying that there are foods out there aren't beneficial to our health.  When we eat we want it to be nourishing and to give us some zest in life.

We prefer natural food stuff in our daily snacks but those snacks like popcorn is also harmful to health. The problem is the chemicals contained therein called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). These chemicals are on the container or packaging paper, often used for packing popcorn.
Direct use cannot be harmful but the chemicals use in packing is hazardous to health.
Location of the danger, these chemicals are part of a compound that can have an impact on infertility. These results are obtained based on a study recently conducted UCLA.
So, mind the way you enjoy snacks.
