Summary
Dog bites are a serious worldwide problem and can be fatal, especially in young children. The annual incidence is about 74/10,000, but only a small fraction of persons who have been bitten seek medical care. The problem is not always limited to large dogs, such as pit bulls or Rottweilers: even smaller dogs can inflict serious wounds. Initial examination includes a history (eg, assess risk of rabies, determine if patient might be immunosuppressed), careful physical examination, and documentation. Treatment includes irrigation, cleansing of the wound -- with delay in closure when possible -- and antibiotics where appropriate.

Viewpoint
This comprehensive review of dog bites points out that only approximately 20% of dog bites become infected so superficial wounds may not need prophylactic antibiotics. Wounds that are especially serious include bites that involve bones, joints, or tendons; serious hand bites; and cranial bites in infants. The authors point out that photographs can be used to accurately document the extent of the injury -- a useful strategy in the event of litigation.

Well for me Dog Bites is serious problem specially on children. Some dogs carries rabies and other diseases right? But it depends on how the dog being feed, treated and specially the surroundings. So as a pet owner I will do some precautionary ways to prevent accident or prevent my dog bites people. Or maybe I'll train my dog.. Cheesy
