Benefits to the child:

1. Breas milk has natural antibodies. These protect the child from infections. A type of antibody (IgA) coats the inner surface of the intestine and prevents gastroenteritis
2. It has all the nutrients needed by the child. The protein ratio is more appropriate than cow's milk. Therefore, problems like constipation asssciated with cow's milk will not occur
3. Studies have shown that children who are breastfed are less likely to get allergic diseases such as asthma.

Benefits to the mother:

1. It helps in involution of theuterus after labour
2. It is a natural method of contraception. Women who breastfeed thoer children have longer anovulatory cycles (menstrual cycles which produce no egg) after delivery.
3. Of course it is cheap and save you lots of money buying those expensive formula milk Smiley

These are what I can think of so far. Smiley

Interestingly, there is also study showing breastfeeding favouring nose breathing in newborn. In addition, there are also less bad oral habits e.g. suction, biting in children who are breastfed.
