Eat a balanced diet is the best way to protect yourself against many diseases associated with aging, including diabetes and heart disease. Eating too much of a food group is not a good idea. Even if you do not eat vegetables, it is possible that you may still be unprotected against the disease because your body needs vitamins and minerals found in other food groups to stay healthy.

Eating a balanced diet means choosing a wide variety of foods and drinks from all the food groups. You must have carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals salts and fibre in the correct proportions. It also helps in avoiding some fatal diseases like diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
