How serious is the "melamine" issue?
«

Recently I heard about the melamine issue from China's products.
My friend said that melamine effect was not just by directly consuming it.
It can also affect us through the animals that were given food containing
melamine. For example if chicken eat "chicken food that contains melamine",
not just the chicken meat is hazardous, even the eggs also manage to
cause negative effects to the consumer.
Is there anyone have any view about this?

Melamine containing foods when consumed regularly can cause kidney problems in the future. But i would suggest to avoid from it since the effect is still the same if is taken moderately.

Melamine is basically used as polymer in construction materials like floor tiles. Only in 2007 the issue became serious that Melamine added pet food turned pets to die. Only later it was declared toxic. So food adulterated with melamine is considered to be toxic.

In Malaysia, the acceptable level of melamine has been set at 1parts per million (ppm) for baby food and 2.5ppm for adult food products.
