Dear Sir, I have an important question.

I'm 23 years old and back in 1999 I had an epileptic seizure. It was early in the morning
when I was asleep and I don't remember anything. I was just woken up by my family who told me I had it.

According to EEG there was something wrong with the flow of electric impulses in my brain.

I lived in fear for the next couple of years and was taking some medicine. However, I have never had any more seizures except for this one case.

The treatment lasted for 3-4 years.
Now I'm 23 and healthy, live as everybody else and try to forget that it ever happened to me, 9 years ago.

I use a computer, cell phones, go to disco, live my life without any restraints etc.

Recently I bought myself a Gamepad with vibration feedback Smiley
On the first day of using it, however, my mum told me it was a stupid thing to do as she thinks that vibrations detected by my brain can cause an epileptic fit and that I will be ill all again.

I am adult but it sounded pretty scary to me.. Sad

That is why, my question would be:
"Can vibrations from the gamepad controller cause an epileptic fit ?"

Well, there are many known trrigers of a breakthrough seizure (fit that comes while on treatment) such as lack of sleep, hypoglycemia etc. Vibration although is not a common trigger but in my opinion, trigger can be anything and your fit might or might not be related to your vibrating gamepad. Nevertheless, you should inform your healthcare provider about your recent fit. An increase of dosage of your anti-epileptic might be needed. Smiley

The thing is that I'm healthy now Smiley and I don't take any anty-epileptics anymore Wink

I'm 9 years after my first and only fit; and about 5 years since I finished my treatment.

I would like to know whether Gamepad vibrations might be something that would cause the actual disease or do I have to be already ill ?

Cheers and thank you in advance Smiley

As what kkmalaysia has mentioned, vibration is not a common known trriger for a seizure. However, for certain individuals, there might be some rare triggers which are not reported.

May I know what type of seizure (from your witness) are you having? Did you lose consciousness or were you aware that you were having a fit?

It's difficult for me to write about it  Sad

I was unconscious but this might have been due to the fact that I was asleep then.

And once again - I have been healthy for the last 6 years  Cheesy

The one and only seizure I had was 9 years ago  Cool

if that's that the case. as what you've said your healthy, there is no more reason to worried. cellphone do have vibration and radiation, disco and computer can make you stress too. but your still fine. so it means you've over come your illness. and hope that it won't trigger again and you may live your life to the fullest. God bless. Cheesy
