Diabetes may lead to Impotency!

Type-2 diabetes can make a war even in the bed. Impotence is a result of the diabetes occurs in some men and lack of the lubrication in vagina occurs in some women and it make intercourse uncomfortable. Impotency or Erectile Dysfunction, as it is also called, is one of the  complication of Diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes often results in clogging of the arteries and damage to the nerves, called atherosclerosis and neuropathy respectively.

Now, Erection is a result of two things:
1) Transmission of an impulse from the brain (because of a stimulating thought or a stimulating sight) to the penis via the spinal cord, the nerves in the pelvis which come out from the spinal cord, and the nerves supplying the penis.
2) When this impulse reaches the penis, the corposa cavernosa in the pelvis relaxes, as a result of which blood flows into it through the arteries supplying the penis. As a result of getting filled with blood and due to the pressure of this blood, the penis becomes erect.

In diabetes, due to atherosclerosis there is clogging of the arteries, and due to diabetic neuropathy the nerves are damaged.

As a result of damaged nerves, impulse from the brain does not reach the penile area, and due to atherosclerosis, there is insufficient blood flow to the penis.

These are the reasons why a diabetic may develop impotence.

I know someone that his toes were cut because he is diabetic and his big left toenail was infected with fungi, it really went into serious toenail problem. Because it could not be healed already because of his diabetes, the doctor just cut it in order to avoid further serious complications in the future.
