I came across this term in a patient's ultrasound abdomen report. Have anyone here come across this term before? What is a liver carbuncle actually?

This is also known as Renal Carbuncle if i am not mistaken A medical term for a kidney abscess. A kidney abscess is simply a localized collection of pus in the kidney. Infection from any part of the body is capable of traveling to the kidney and causing an abscess e.g urinary tract infection. The infection may also originate in the kidneys themselves due to conditions such as kidney stones and kidney inflammation.
