Well done. That has been in the making for awhile.
They have been doing this treatment on babies for years but not adults.
They have had success with babies because of the fetal haemaglobin.
There have been major break throughs with technology.
Thay have now started on adults but as I said before the risks out weight the cure.
Senario 1 You have the operation but complications arise.
Senario 2 You survive the operation but end up still Thalassaemic
Senario 3 You have the operation, all goes well and no more Transfusion..etc
My concern as well as my haematologists is that the risk is too high that I will not survive the operation.
The percent given that all goes well was around 30%

For each Thalassaemic, it is a decison that needs to be research and discussed at length with their Haematologist. I have made my decision that I would rather be alive than buried.
The risks are too high at this stage.
