Oral contraceptives Prevent Ovarian Cancer

The collaborative Group on Epidemiological Studies of Ovarian Cancer ha analysed the result of 45 studies done on ovarian cancer and concluded that women on OCP more than 10 years have a lower risk developing ovarian cancer (from 12 per 1000 to 8 per 1000). The study also found that the benefits of taking OCP can last for years after they stop taking them.

Having a tubal ligation, a surgical procedure in which the fallopian tubes are tied to prevent pregnancy. Some studies show that when performed after childbearing, tubal ligation can reduce the risk for ovarian cancer up to 67 percent. However, this procedure should only be done for valid medical reasons, not solely to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.

Many reproductive issues, including cervical and ovarian cancer often do not show signs until they are far advanced, when they are much more difficult to treat. So, seeing your doctor regularly can help make definite that issues are detected early on, when treatment is more likely to be successful.
