How truly effective is alternative medicine?

There must still be some underlying science if it does have any positive effects on health

What western medicine has done with the last 150 years is drastically lowered the number of birth deaths and saved most children under age 5 from certain death from things that would have more likely killed them in the past.

It can be said that herbal/alternative medicine is effective to a certain extend as it had been used since ancient to cure/treat sickness. As I know, modern medicine drugs will also somehow affect our overall health. There is an article questioning about this too - Are Herbal Medicines Better Than Modern Drugs? and Differences Between Herbal Medicine and Modern Drug

Hi...

Herbal medicine can be used in one of three ways:

1. As the primary treatment for diseases and general health problems
2. To preventing disease, and/or
3. Complementary to other natural therapies or orthodox medicine

Up until about 200 years ago, herbal extracts, teas, baths, etc., were the primary forms of treatment available to doctors. In fact Pedanius Dioscorides an ancient Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist from Anazarbus, Cilicia, Asia Minor, wrote ‘the bible’ on herbs and early medicinal substances extracted from plants in the first century AD. To this day, pharmaceutical companies still use herbal medicines in their drugs (they just don’t advertise that fact). He described over 600 medicinal plants, their use and actions with respect to treating diseases.

A skilled herbalist is able to use medicinal plants to treat any disease known to man. Granted, some diseases such as cancer for example, are not treated easily, but are treatable with herbs. The limit is not the limitations of herbs, but the skill of the physician. And, let’s face it – that’s the same for any system of medicine.

In short, herbal medicine has been used since the dawn of man and is still as effective today as it ever was in treating virtually any disease safely and effectively.

Of course there are some differences between to medicinal rhythm. I am not actually sure about their differences but traditional medicine or shall we say herbal practice are more natural than modern medicine though herbal medicine needs time before you'll see the effect but its natural and no other harmful stuff that can cause other side effect.

Alternative medicine is effective in certain extend and might be superior than western medicine for certain disease, however the major drawback for alternative medicine (chinese medicine) is the labeling of the ingredients . Once I went to a chinese medicine shop to buy some medicine and when I requested the ingredients of the medicine, the singseh scolded me Sad
