Treatments for diabetes can include many elements. Conventional treatments in addition to complementary and alternative treatments are available. A health treatment that is not classified as ordinary Western medical practice is referred to as complementary and alternative medicine. Complementary and alternative therapy includes a variety of disciplines that include everything from diet and exercise to mental conditioning and lifestyle changes. Examples include acupuncture, guided imagery, chiropractic treatments, yoga, hypnosis, biofeedback, aromatherapy, relaxation, herbal remedies, massage, and many others.

There are number of natural remedies for diabetes and they do work if taken properly and with the prescribed life style and diet for diabetes.

Natural Remedies for  diabetes are several: A few are being named here. Either one of them can be followed at a time .  It is strongly recommended that one shall always consult one’s physician before starting on these regimens.
Ø   Cinnamon (dalchini) – one  teaspoon of ground cinnamon daily showed remarkable improvement of blood sugar in Type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the  triglycerides  and the LDL levels in the blood. The spice can also be used in the preparation of food.
Ø   Bitter gourd (karela) – 50 ml of its juice or 250 gm of fried bitter gourd to be taken daily for three months. In certain Asian countries, bitter gourd vegetables are prepared and eaten routinely. This can also help as a diabetic controller.
Ø   Fenugreek seeds (Methi)—Grind 100gms of fenugreek seeds and 50 gms of turmeric. Take one teaspoon daily with milk. Vegetables  prepared from fenugreek leaves is also excellent remedy.
Ø   Leaves of apple wood tree ( Bel ) can be soaked in water kept in a copper vessel overnight. One liter of  this water should be drunk the next day in intervals. Do not worry if the water turns green.
Ø   Basil plant leaves ( Tulsi): One table spoon of juice prepared from these leaves to be taken daily.
Ø   Indian gooseberry (Amla): One tablespoon of its juice to be taken daily in the morning on an empty stomach.
Ø   Margora tree ( Neem) leaves: One tablespoon of it’s juice to be taken daily in the morning on empty stomach.
Ø   Java Plum ( Jamun) : This can be eaten as fruit in sufficient amounts or it’s juice can be drunk . Alternately, the powder of it’s dried seeds are to ground and 3 to 4 grams of it are to be mixed with water and drunk 3 to 4 times a day.

These alternate measures help in lowering raised blood sugar levels in either of the following ways.

1)   They inhibit conversion of starch into glucose when the blood glucose levels are raised.
2)   They have an  insulin like effect and help in lowering the blood glucose levels.
3)    They help the body cells to take up the glucose in the blood
when it is not being done properly, as in Type 2 diabetes.

However, as mentioned above, following the correct lifestyle habits and the proper diet is very important and no treatment, whether allopathic or alternate will succeed without them. You could refer them at www.mediconweb.com. Go to topics and click on them.

Acupuncture has been said to have its benefits in treating diabetes. However, I am not very well versed with the subject of acupuncture.
Natural remedies with the help of herbs have had positive effects in treating diabetes. I have mentioned various options which you could follow in treating diabetes. You could follow any one of them.
However, it is important that you follow the prescribed lifestyle and the prescribed diet which is as important as treatment, in a patient of diabetes.
